Welcome to week 13 of my reflections on what I have learned in my disabilities and inclusion class. This week we had a chance to learn about Therapeutic recreation and job requirements.
Therapeutic Recreation
Therapeutic therapy is defined as restoring, remediating, and rehabilitating to improve movement and functional independence. It aids in reducing or eliminating the effects of illness or disability. It is made to offer opportunities to improve your health.
Therapeutic Process
- Assessments
- Planning
- Inteventions
- Evaluations
These four processes ensure we determine the needs of the client, determine the goals, facilitate the activity and determine the progress made.
Areas where Therapeutic recreation is offered:
- Hospitals
- Clinics
- Long-term care homes
- Community centres
- Camps
- Rehab centers
- Group homes
These are just a few to name, but there are many more places that offer these services to clients.
What is Therapeutic Recreation?
What are the outcomes of recreational therapy?
Current research indicates a significant number of positive health outcomes resulting from participation in recreational therapy programs:
- Improvement in physical health status
- Improvement in psychosocial status
- Improvement in cognitive status
- Improvement in life, recreation, and community activities
