Overview
While participating in the RM 207 practicum, I engaged in a series of inclusive, community-based activities supporting individuals with disabilities. This experience significantly enriched my understanding of therapeutic recreation, inclusive practices, and person-centred support.
Goals Met
Developed practical life skills and promoted independence through interactive community activities.
Fostered teamwork, social inclusion, and leadership through volunteering and service projects.
Enhanced adaptive recreation programming and encouraged civic engagement in real-world settings.
Activities Completed
Attended a Volunteer Workshop focused on service values, inclusion, and leadership.
Supported individuals in shopping outings, teaching money concepts and budgeting.
Facilitated inclusive swimming sessions, promoting physical wellness and confidence.
Volunteered with the Girl Guides of Canada – Sparks Division, assisting with crafts and mentorship.
Participated in a community cleanup service project, fostering responsibility and teamwork.
Coordinated with the Okotoks baseball team to hand out jerseys and sports equipment, encouraging teamwork and contribution.
Reflections & Insights
This practicum deepened my appreciation for inclusive recreation and its positive impact on individuals with disabilities. I witnessed firsthand how supportive environments and community engagement build confidence, connection, and purpose. Each activity reinforced the importance of creating accessible opportunities for all and reminded me that inclusion isn’t just a goal—it’s a mindset we bring to every interaction.
